A recent, joint conservation initiative resulted in two Owl Boxes being positioned within the grounds of Rondebosch Boys High School.  Sybaweb, the School’s contracted IT management company, in partnership with the RBHS Interact Society, sought well known conservation organisation EcoSolutions and their Owl Box Project to assist with the initiative.

With big, open fields and food a-plenty, schools are considered to be ideal sites within urban areas for encouraging the breeding of our owl population according to EcoSolutions, who run and manage the Owl Box Project countrywide.

The brain child of raptor expert Jonathan Haw, the Owl Box Project currently has over 3000 networked owl box participants throughout South Africa as well as a highly successful owlet breeding program.

Haw was on hand at Rondebosch Boys High to position the two boxes donated by Sybaweb, the IT specialists for both Rondebosch Boys Preparatory and High schools.

Sybaweb Marketing Manager and Bosch Old Boy, Sean Rose, said that Sybaweb was proud to be able to support the school and its community in endeavouring to provide a suitable nesting place for the Bosch Owls. As a company dedicated to seeking smart solutions, he said, facilitating this project was an opportunity not to be missed.

EcoSolutions also provides an educational arm to the project, aiming to educate learners regarding owl biology, ecology and responsible use of rodenticides and alternatives to their use.  Haw stressed the importance of community involvement in any project such as this and encoFrom left:uraged members of the public to get involved which they can do by contacting EcoSolutions at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
